Fighting Illiteracy in Peru

When I saw a huge poster on the National Library about how 1 million Peruvian adults had learnt to read I have to admit that I was shocked. At that time, there were 28 million Peruvians, so if 1 million had just learnt to read, that didn't speak well for Peru.

I'm glad that Peru is fighting against literacy, but I have to admit they have a lot of changes to make, starting with the horrible libraries.

One tip to remember is that speaking Spanish will help you greatly. You'll be treated differently than if you speak English all the time, it'll help you assimilate to Peru, and it'll help you teach Peruvians how to read. If you're looking to learn Spanish, check out Fluenz Spanish, Rosetta Stone, and Synergy Spanish.

Nowadays, world illiteracy is still pretty high: 20%. Even with all the technical advances, the fact that people still can't read is baffling. Governments must take a stand against this.
